Step-by-Step Process to Read a Kundli

Step 1: Identify the Ascendant : Lagna

The Lagna refers to the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at the time of birth. It serves as the foundation of the entire horoscope and indicates the key aspects of a person’s life.

What the Ascendant Determines
To understand an individual, it is essential to know their Ascendant; this allows one to visualize the person’s physical constitution and overall presence. Furthermore, it helps in understanding their physique, innate habits, and probable lifestyle.

Many astrologers begin their analysis only after examining the Ascendant and the placement of its ruling planet.

Step 2: Examine the Placement of Planets

Note which planet is in which house.
For example:

•It signifies wisdom, good fortune, and opportunities for advancement in life.
•If Venus is in the seventh house, it helps strengthen relationships and marriage and makes them happy.
•If Saturn is positioned in the tenth house, it may indicate a regular professional career.

Step 3: Analyze House Lords

In a horoscope, every house is associated with a ruling zodiac sign, and each sign has a ruling planet. Knowing the position of each planet-whether favorable or unfavorable-makes it much easier for astrologers to determine the potential effects and influences of that planet.

For example:

If the lord of the tenth house is positioned in the eleventh house, one can gain wealth and earn a good reputation among people through hard work and one’s professional career.

Step 4: Check Planetary Strength

Not all planets yield results equally; some exert a stronger influence, while the impact of others is less pronounced:
A planet can be very strong at times and weak at others.

• Exalted – Very strong.

• Debilitated – Weak.

• In its own sign – Well-positioned.

• Combust – Influence may diminish due to proximity to the Sun.

Why Are Aspects Important?

The aspect of a planet can either enhance or diminish the effects of a specific house or another planet. These aspects help in understanding the interrelationships between various facets of life.

For example:

  • If Jupiter aspects the fifth house, prospects related to education, intellect, or children can be favorable.
  • If Saturn casts its aspect on the tenth house, career advancement can be achieved through patience and hard work.

Step 5: Study Yogas

When analyzing a horoscope, identifying various Yogas is crucial. In Vedic astrology, the term ‘Yoga’ refers to a specific planetary configuration believed to possess the power to bring about particular effects.

Not all horoscopes contain the same types of planetary combinations yogas. Furthermore, even when such a combination exists, its effects depend on the strength of the planets, the houses they occupy, and the prevailing planetary periods dashas.

1. Raj Yoga

Raj Yoga is traditionally associated with leadership, recognition, influence, or success. It usually forms when certain relationships exist between the lords of auspicious houses.

2. Gajakesari Yoga

This Yoga forms under specific conditions involving Jupiter and the Moon.

3. Dhana Yoga

“Dhana” means wealth. Dhana Yogas involve combinations traditionally linked with financial opportunities.

4. Neecha Bhanga Raj Yoga

Sometimes a planet is considered weak because it occupies its sign of debilitation. Under certain conditions, that weakness may be mitigated, creating what is known as Neecha Bhanga Raj Yoga.

Conclusion

Vedic astrology incorporates a vital component known as horoscope reading. From this, a detailed description of a person’s life can be drawn. Generally, a Vedic practice will analyze the placement of planets, the 12 houses, and the zodiac signs based on the time and location of one’s birth. It then gives a person insight into the temperament of an individual, the person’s future course of action, spouse, state of health, finances, and his or her level of spirituality. The strength of the Lagna and the occupancy of the Planets in the Houses are all assessed. One should approach it as a means of self-discovery and a guide to finding the right path in life.
